7 Natural Ways to Prevent the Flu (no flu shot)

Picture

The flu season this year seems to be worse than ever. Everyone I know where I live and around the US has been plagued with this long lasting intense flu. At the local drug stores and lathered all over TV sets are “have you gotten your flu shot yet?” The idea behind the flu shot, is that the human body is unable to support the immune system naturally. This is far from true, the flu shot is shown to be ineffective and even hazardous to the human body and there are ways to prevent the flu naturally without a flu shot.

The best way to assure that you are not going to get the flu is prevention. It is difficult to be a mom when I get the flu and to continue living in harmony when germs creep into my children and then I am surrendered to helping them feel better. Relying on a flu shot to protect yourself and your children does not offer the best protection against the flu. Following these steps will help keep you and your family healthy and free from the flu, the natural way!

Here are 7 ways to prevent the flu naturally.

1. Wash your hands!
Seriously, this is the most important thing you can do.  The germs that settle on your hands should be wiped away as soon as possible before the germs end up in the mouth or nose and grow into a flu. My girls and I  make hand sanitizer that we put in a spray bottle.  They leave it in their cubbies at school to keep germ free (as much as possible). 2. Stay hydrated
Bring a water bottle with you wherever you go. I send a large bottle with my girls every morning that they drink all day at school. Water helps every part of your body work efficiently.  The immune system can work at its best when full hydrated and has the strength to ward off illness.

3. Organic, plant based diet
Increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables in the diet is helpful to bring in all of the vitamins and nutrients for a strong immune system. Those that have Vitamin C are most important. These include, papaya, orange, lemon, strawberries, broccoli, leafy greens, peppers etc. Other important natural foods include apple cider vinegar, garlic, onions, ginger, turmeric (all in my Master Tonic), coconut oil, seeds and nuts.

4. Supplements
Having supplements on hand is a good idea during flu season. A Vitamin C supplement is good to have. Camu Camu is very high in vitamin C. It is a plant derived antioxidant and comes in powder. Master Tonic is the best flu prevention for me.  I drink a shot glass full per day and it seems to keep me from getting any flu symptoms. For my children I created the Immune Tonic that is Elderberry based with other powerful ingredients that work together to keep the flu away or if you have the flu it keeps the symptoms from growing. If you cannot get enough sunlight than a Vitamin D supplement would be necessary. A probiotic is a good supplement to have around. They put ‘good bacteria’ in your gut which helps everything run a bit smoother. You can get it in a pill form or get it from Kombucha, Kefir, Sauerkraut, Kimchi, Miso, etc.

5. Exercise
Exercise helps keep the body strong. It also helps release toxins, reduces stress and improve circulation. Even if it is just a walk or a yoga practice. This is vital for a healthy body to ward of the flu.

6. Sleep
Please love sleep. Sleep is good! Allowing your body to rest and re cooperate from a day’s activities is vital to maintain balance and a healthy body, mind and spirit. It is especially important to children. So, make sure your children go to bed early.

7. Go Outdoors
Get outside, breathe fresh air, go into nature and relax.  Connecting to the Earth has a naturally grounding and healing effect on the body. Try and get a bit of sunlight every day if you can and if you can do it barefoot even better! Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to serious health conditions. Nature’s Flu Shot

Picture

As I walked through a major grocery chain store a couple of days ago, I passed a sign that said I could save 10% on my groceries if I got a free flu shot… So if my bill was $250, I save $25 and won’t get the flu! Wow, what a deal, these major corporations must really care about my health…. Wait, what!? Do you know what’s in a flu shot these days ?  I do! Every where I turn there is someone telling me that I need to inject myself or my children with a vaccine so we won’t get the flu.  Which flu, by the way, because aren’t there 1000’s of strains of the flu? AND.. doesn’t it seem that when you hear of someone getting the flu shot, they end up with the flu anyway, and they justify it by saying if they hadn’t got the shot, it would have been much worse! â€‹Read more about flu shots here.
